When the Ford Motor Company announced that a Shelby GT350 Mustang is in the pipeline, there hasn’t been quite a ruckus in the world of ‘Stang enthusiasts since the S550 generation made its world debut in December 2013. We understand the hype surrounding the Shelby-ified muscle car due to its hierarchical importance and the all-new vee eight binding under its long, sculpted and vented bonnet.
Just to get things straight from the get-go, this is not a proper rival for the trackaholic Camaro Z/28 from Chevrolet. It’s coming as standard with way too many creature comforts like air con, a 4.2-inch SYNC infotainment system and such, just as we pointed out in our story regarding the ordering guide for the GT350 and the GT350R.

Truth be told, the Z/28’s real competitor comes in the form 2016 Shelby GT350R Mustang, but only if you opt for the R Package, an option that sees the deletion of lots of stuff, including the tire mobility kit.

Both variants of the Shelby-grade Mustang are animated by an all-new 5.2-liter V8 dubbed the Voodoo, which boasts with many go-faster bits and bobs, including a supercar-spec flat-plane crankshaft.

Expected to pack over 500 rampaging stallions, the Voodoo is dubbed as the most powerful N/A V8 ever made by the Blue Oval, a notable detail through which we can understand the hype that the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang created. But it bugs me greatly how really popular automotive publications are adamant there won’t be a drop top convertible version of the track-grade bruiser.

autoevolution reported back in September 2014 how a member of the Mustang6G forum leaked the dealer network’s listing for replacement brake master cylinders and for quarter panel insulators.

This listing clearly shows that those replacement parts are also available for a "Convertible; MOD 5.2L-TiVCT PFI NA HP1 GAS, Less Special Equipment Package; RH" 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang, so can we please stop this fuss and gingerly wait for the rag top to be launched?

'til then, enjoy X-Tomi’s rendering of the 2016 Shelby GT350R Mustang convertible or our own take on the less hardcore 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang convertible. It's not known if the R will also receive the hack job treatment, but the normal GT350 certainly will. Pinky promise!
