It's official, ladies and gentlemen! The 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang packs a punch. 526 horsepower is the peak output, and the redline goes all the way to a screaming 8,250 rpm. Bring it on, sixth-gen Camaro Z/28! It's hell-bent for leather time in the muscle car world as soon as these Mustangs hit dealerships.
Without further beating around the bush, the photo above was shared at a Ford media event today, and the specs are astounding. The central piece of the GT350 (and R) is the 5.2-liter flat-plane crank Voodoo V8, but wait until you hear what it's capable of.
Output? 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque. You can smoke the rear tires to kingdom come with that kind of oomph available at the tap of the loud pedal. The 8,250 rpm rev limiter is also a sweet element of the overall experience. After all, the 2016 Shelby GT350 is the most hardcore naturally aspirated Mustang model ever made, boasting the most powerful production N/A V8 ever made by the Blue Oval.
Running on 93 octane gasoline, the engine operates at a compression of 12:1 and employs an 87 mm throttle body. The second-generation block is honed with torque plates, with the cylinder heads being 6 percent lighter than those of the 5-point-Oh Coyote V8 that animates the 2015 Ford Mustang GT.
The valves are also larger than the Coyote's. Other highlight features of the 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 come in the guise of 14 mm lift cams, a rifle drilled crankshaft that represents only 15 percent of rotational inertia, a one-piece oil pan and windage tray, as well as a better flowing intake than the Boss 302 of yesteryear.
On an ending note, play the video below to hear the active exhaust valves work their magic.

UPDATE: press release and additional photographs added.
“A new Mustang as exceptional as the Shelby GT350 deserves an equally extraordinary engine,” declared Dave Pericak, director of Ford Performance. “The all-new naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V8 perfectly fits the balanced dynamics of the Shelby GT350, and we believe this new engine will become a performance legend.”
