Throughout the current year, the Barrett-Jackson auction company sold first examples of all-new production vehicles at gobsmaking sums of green dollar bills. As a brief reminder, 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat VIN0001 raised a substantial $1.65 million, all of it in the name of charity.
It’s wishful thinking to expect that record to be broken so on, but you never know what might happen. The latest muscle car to head to the auction block will be the first publicly available production unit of the all-new 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang, which boasts with the first production Ford V8 that benefits from a racing-inspired flat-plane crankshaft.

The hardcore pony ditches the 5.0 Coyote V8 of the 2015 Ford Mustang GT for a 5.2 V8, heralded as Ford’s most powerful naturally aspirated production engine ever. Despite this claim, the Blue Oval still insists with keeping its mouth shut about the so-called Voodoo V8. All we know is that it will produce more than 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) and will rev up to 8,250 revolutions per minute.

One thing is certain though - the 505 hp Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 may not be enough to duke it out with the 2016 Shelby GT350, one of the reasons why we’re anxious about what the golden bowtie manufacturer will make of the new-gen 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, underpinned by GM's Alpha platform.

Slated to go under the hammer in January at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale sale, the winning bidder of the first 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang will be able to choose an exterior finish and optional packages to his or her liking. The proceeds will benefit JDRF, a global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.
