2016 Renault Alpine Sportscar Spied, Test Mule Suggests Launch Could Be Near

It's not the first time we meet with a Renault Alpine test mule, but since last time our carparazzi spotted the vehicles, some changes appeared.

Don't get us wrong, but the car still looks like a Lotus Exige with camouflage covers hiding it's shapes, but there's something about it that makes our blood itch in a good way.

By now, we can all agree the Renault Alpine is having a difficult birth, but the advanced test mule you're about to see in the photo gallery suggests engineers are on the right path and there are chances we'll see the car making a debut this year.

The prototype has new rims, a modified roof scoop and an additional rear wing, along with new front and rear bumpers.

We're inclined to think a launch is near because the Renault Alpine Celebration concept took a bow in Le Mans last month, and even if it was displayed as a prototype, the outer body looked production ready from where we were standing.

As you know, the Renault Alpine was a project that should have been nurtured through a partnership with Caterham, but that didn't last so Renault had to continue on their own.

Engine wise, we should expect a 2.0-liter mid-mounted 270-300 horsepower turbocharged unit. Caterham wanted to go for a 1.6-liter mill, but their choice doesn't matter anymore.

The two-seater coupé shape with sleek and flowing lines should stay the same, which is good for watchers' eyes, but we fell in love with the central backlight, flanked by two brushed stainless steel exhaust tailpipes introduced by the Alpine Celebration shown in Le Mans.
