The Range’s new position on top of the food chain is a clear clue that we’re looking at the most powerful and luxurious Range Rover ever created. This also means that the ultra-luxurious SUV received a special treatment from JLR Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) where it matters most: under the hood and on the inside.

First things first, so let’s talk about the amount of muscle packed by the vanity-boosting Range Rover. In that respect, a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 (shared with the Range Rover Sport SVR) is in charge with providing 550 HP and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. Even if performance went up by 40 HP and 55 Nm (41 lb-ft), Land Rover insists that efficiency remains unchanged. Not that anyone buying the Range Rover SVAutobiography would care about the combined 15 mpg (15.6 l/100 km) returned by the SUV.

Maximum torque is available at 3,500 rpm while the V8 is tamed by a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission that allows the British behemoth to blast from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds.

Enter the cabin and you royal highness will be greeted by solid aluminum pedals mixed up with luxurious wood trim without looking ridiculous because you know, good taste and all that. At the back, passengers are spoiled by powered deployable tables and a beverage refrigerator.

The sumptuous atmosphere is rounded up by the deep twist mohair carpet mats covering the floor while practicality gets a boost in the rear compartment, where engineers came up with a sliding luggage roof made from aluminum and a choice of wood veneer options.

Scheduled to go on sale this summer, the Range Rover SVAutobiography comes with a price tag of £148,900 in the UK while US customers will have to be patient until September or so and get ready to unload at least $199,495 from their bank accounts - $995 destination/handling charge not included. Until then, we'll get to see the 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography making its debut at the 2015 NYIAS.
