2016 Range Rover Sport HST Isn’t as Brawny as the Supercharged Model

In the world of hot hatchbacks, carmakers are offering the so-called “warm hatchbacks” and the full-on blunderbuss. Apparently, the 2016 Range Rover Sport HST lends that recipe and adapts it for the mid-size luxo-SUV segment.

So get this: on one hand you have the base 2016 Range Rover Sport, propelled by a 340 HP and 332 lb-ft LR-V6 supercharged 3.0-liter engine. On the other hand, you have the Supercharged with its 510 HP and 461 lb-ft 5.0-liter blown vee-eight.

Where does the 2016 Range Rover Sport HST fit then? Bang in the middle! Due to minor revisions to the LR-V6 motor, the 3-liter lump is now rated 380 horsepower. Yep, the HST-badged Sport is nothing more than a middle-grounder developed to fill a slot in the model’s range of powertrains.

Besides the 40 HP power bump, the visuals have also been enhanced in order to make that all-new HST badge worthy of being glued on a RR Sport. The most important aesthetic add-ons are the red brake calipers, 21-inch alloy wheels, a Santorini Black-painted roof and a sporty-looking rear spoiler.

Boooooring! Slated to debut in New York in April, I’d like to point out a more important debut for JLR North America. At long last, the British manufacturer announced that the 3-liter TD6 V6 turbo diesel is going to arrive in the U. S. of A., with 254 HP and 440 lb-ft of torque, together with a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg (9.8 liters of fuel / 100 km).
