The 911’s upcoming mid-cycle revamp is now one of the Frankfurt Motor Show’s worst-kept secrets and the story just got a bit more transparent - we can now give you a spy photo that reveals most of the interior, confirming the changes we expected.
Our spy shooters recently encountered a group of 911 test vehicles comprised mostly of Turbo and Targa models, but the cabin shot shown above seems to belong to a fixed-roof Carrera.

Those who though the exterior changes were too small will update their acceptance of the notion once they take a look at the cabin. For the rest of us, the interior brings just the kind of upgrades we’ve expected.

First and foremost, the steering wheel gains a nice little button, reminding us of the setup used on the 918 Spyder. As we previously wrote, this will allow the driver to interact with the all-new Sport Response system.

Now that Porsche is installing turbocharged engines at the rear of Carrera and Carrera S models, the driver will be able to control the way in which the power is delivered. The aim here is to modulate the boost and minimize lag, so that the character of the engine stays close to that of a naturally aspirated powerplant.

The center console hosts the other important change we want to discuss, namely a larger infotainment screen. This is an area Porsche really needed to update. Zuffenhausen doesn’t insist on installing technology such as a head-up display due to the weight disadvantage, but the improved display is welcome.

Let’s go back outside the car

Returning to the Turbo and the Targa models mentioned above, all the body modifications we’ve discussed in the past are here. We’re talking about the retro engine cover, the extra air outlets on the lower sides of the rear apron, as well as the little front fascia details - from the new turn signals to the air intakes, the styling has evolved a bit.

While the 911 Turbo S spied here keeps its exhaust layout, the Targa migrates to the new central setup, yet another indicator of forced induction.

With the 2016 Porsche 911 Facelift set to make an official appearance next month, we are now eager to find out more about the tech details brought by the turbo revolution. Until then, you can check out the visual changes in the mega-gallery below.
