Nissan has chosen to preview its 2016 Maxima sedan in an ad that aired this weekend, during the Super Bowl XLIX.
The company has remained silent after the showing, but we can tell you the flagship sedan of the Nissan range is now a much better looking vehicle, thanks to cosmetic tweaks previewed by the Sport Sedan Concept shown during last year's Detroit Auto Show.
New headlight designs feature a set of LEDs that hug the protruding chrome grille. There's a sense of classic luxury as well, with chromed door handles and more trim pieces than we can count.
Another new design feature seems to be borrowed from the Jaguar XJ, the split between the C-pillars and the boot. This draws attention to the hind quarters of the car where you may notice twin exhaust pipes that vent gases from a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
No power rating is available at the moment, but the Sport Sedan concept of last year had a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces more than 300 hp (223 kW), the engine being connected to a sport-tuned Xtronic continuously variable transmission. So we can expect at least 10+ over the current model.
This eighth generation Nissan Maxima will likely still ride on the Nissan D platform. After it makes its official debut in April at the New York Auto Show, this four-door executive car will have no shortage of rivals, including the 2015 Toyota Avalon, the Chevy Impala and the aging but still popular Ford Taurus.
Nissan's "With Dad" commercial also reveals the all-new GT-R LM Nismo race car. And in case you're wondering why Nissan has dumped everything into one video, it's because this is their return to Super Bowl commercials after an 18-year absence.
So what do you think, is the 2016 Maxima simply a much better car or does it look like Madonna's awkwardly muscular body?
