UPDATE: 2016 Mustang Confirmed to Debut California Special Pack, Debuts on May 11th

The S550 Mustang started production life as a 2015MY, but the first batch of ponies is almost out. Next Monday, the Ford Motor Company will open the ordering books for the 2016 Mustang. Curious what to look forward to?

For starters, the Blue Oval confirmed that the in-house developed SYNC infotainment system will switch from Gen II to III. The differences between the two versions are slim but welcomed all things considered. An easier to navigate through menu, more integrated apps, simpler typing, and a better voice recognition software are to be expected.

I’m somewhat disappointed Grabber Blue is not listed in the 2016 Ford exterior colors brochure. Furthermore, Kona Blue and Wimbledon White are no longer available. Customers of the 2016 Mustang will have to choose from a spectrum consisting of: Competition Orange, Shadow Black, Triple Yellow Tri-coat, Guard, Deep Impact Blue, Magnetic, Race Red, Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Ingot Silver and Oxford White.

A recent release from Ford reads: “For the first time on the sixth-generation Mustang, the iconic California Special Package will be available. The California Special Package is just one of the new packages available on the 2016 Mustang that we know fans of the Mustang brand will love.” Even though FoMoCo didn’t detail what’s included, we have a good idea what the 2016 Ford Mustang California Special Package will have to offer.

To be offered only on the GT fastback (and, quite possible, convertible), the California Special pack (GT/CS) will consist of special badges inside and out, chrome detailing, some go-faster stripes, as well as GT/CS-exclusive alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Until official intel will be made available on Monday, we’re betting our two cents that the 2016 Mustang GT/CS will also boast special cabin detailing and redesigned bumpers.

UPDATE: The 2016 Ford Mustang GT(/CS) is bringing back hood turn signals. A novelty feature first and foremost, but amber turn signals integrated inside hood vents are also a historical cue from the '60s.

UPDATE 2: "For the first time on the 6th generation Mustang, the iconic California Special Package will be available. The California Special Package is just one of the new packages available on the 2016 Mustang that we know fans of the Mustang brand will love."
