Mitsubishi is a company with big plans for the future and most of them are tied around the upcoming 2016 Outlander. The SUV will make a debut during the 2015 New York Auto Show next month, but until then, we’ve had a few encounters with it.
The photo you just saw is actually the background on a save the date card by Mitsubishi, inviting media and public to ‘come and see the new face of Mitsubishi Motors’. Well, you bet we’ll do that, but we already saw the SUV’s face in several spyshots and previewed by the XR-PHEV II Concept in Geneva.

Mitsubishi will bring several changes to its SUV both in the front and rear plus new-style black and silver alloy wheels. The SUV’s face is also less about resembling robots and more about adopting a slightly aggressive but modern approach.

At the rear, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is looking up to the off-road-designed Pajero Sport as the tail lamp design looks inspired by its brother’s styling cues. There’s also a handlebar-shaped chrome trim under the rear windshield wiper, meant to add some fresh air in terms of design.

We also expect a refined interior what will be dominated by PHEV Concept’s dashboard but we’ll let the Mitsubishi designers surprise us on that.

The engine department will get the 2.4 MIVEC and the 3.0 MIVEC V6 engines in the United States, while Europeans will receive the 2.0-liter MIVEC four-cylinder petrol engine along with the good ol’ 2.2-liter DI-D turbo diesel , mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto transmission - paddle shifters included.
