2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV US Deliveries Will Reportedly Start in March

You would think that the unofficial title of the smallest four-seat electric vehicle sold in North America has to count for something in terms of sales, but the sad truth is the Mitsubishi i-MiEV never managed to break the 2,000 units barrier, despite being available for environment-conscious customers for more than three years. And to make things worse, only 195 cars were sold in 2014, so yeah, it really looks like i-MiEV sales hit an iceberg.

But since the Japanese level for perseverance is over 9,000, Mitsubishi is set on keeping the i-MiEV affair up-and-running. Therefore, the carmaker decided to start deliveries of the 2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV next month, according to Green Car Reports.

These assumptions seem to be backed by Insideevs reporters, who learned from a “conversation directly with Mitsubishi” that “the 2016 i-MiEV will go on sale within the next few weeks, probably March.”

It goes without saying that we strongly suggest you to pass that information through your personal “not everything that shines will always gonna be gold” filter, especially since Mitsubishi skipped two model years (2013 and 2015) from i-MiEV’s timeline.

However, there was a rather unsuccessful attempt to resuscitate sales on the 2014 cars by means of a $6,000 price cut and standard offering of the CHAdeMO DC fast-charging solution. At this time, the current 2014 i-MiEV is priced at $22,995, including the discount mentioned above.

Further details are at the moment harder to find than water on Mars, so our best option is to patiently wait until Mitsubishi decides to make a move and officially announce i-MiEV’s fate.
