2016 Mercedes GLC Plug-In Hybrid Spied for the First Time

Winter testing season for upcoming new models is at its peak right now and with competition heating up on all fronts, Mercedes-Benz couldn’t just sit and watch. As a result, the Stuttgart-based carmaker is quick to (re)jump the efficiency bandwagon with the 2016 GLC Plug-In Hybrid.

Spy-photographers are living busy times at the moment, and Mercedes-Benz are making sure there’s plenty of fish in the sea. This time, we’re talking about green fish in the eco-friendly sea, as the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC plug-in hybrid was spotted undergoing tests in cold conditions in Sweden.

This means that Mercedes are keen on expanding their plug-in hybrid palette beyond the already-present S-Class and C-Class plug-in hybrids. Since the new GLC is based on the C-Class, it should be safe to assume that we’re actually looking at the GLC 350 Plug-In Hybrid, judging by the charger socket in the rear bumper.

In this case, the environment-friendly Mercedes GLC will most likely feature a duo made of a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, delivering a total of 279 HP and 600 Nm of torque (443 lb-ft). In theory, this solution should offer a maximum range of 30 km (18 miles) in all-electric mode.

All we know for sure is that the standard 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC is set to make a debut later this year in September, at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Therefore, an production version of the GLC plug-in hybrid should arrive somewhere in early 2016, but we will keep you up to date with the latest developments as soon as more relevant information surfaces online.
