Mercedes is about to show quite a few new cars based on the same architecture as the W205 C-Class sedan. First, we'll get the GLC-Class, an SUV that will replace the aging GLK. After that, the C-Class Coupe (C205) and Cabriolet (A205) will be shown.
These two spy videos were taken around Stuttgart, where German engineers are putting the finishing touches on the crucial rivals for the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5.
New details are visible in these spy clips that remained hidden until now. For instance, the C-Class Coupe shows us its headlights and AMG Sport body kit. The "eyes " of the car appear the same as on the sedan, but they are subtly different.
We expect that both 2-door models will be slightly wider and lower than their 4-door counterparts, which will have a positive effect on handling.
In previous reports, we've talked at length about the potential engine options for both cars. The diesel range should be made up entirely of the 2.1-liter mill with two flavors: 177 and 204 PS. There is also the potential for the diesel to be part of a hybrid model.
The "benziner" C-Class coupe and cabrio models will start off with a basic 1.6-liter turbo pushing 156 PS and work their way up to about three versions of the 2-liter turbo. The exciting stuff is in the V6 range, which will include two versions of the 3-liter Biturbo delivering 333 and 367 PS.
The latter will be found under the bonnet of the extra-quick C 450 AMG models. More mental C63 AMGs will also be introduced, but should take another year to launch.
The A205 C-Class Cabrio will be the first of its kind from Mercedes, as its role was previously fulfilled by the CLK-Class. Mercedes also has plans for an S-Class Cabrio flagship, suggesting they expect the convertible market to recover.
