Somewhat recently previewed by the Concept Coupe SUV at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, the future Mercedes-Benz MLC has already been caught testing around Germany, with a number of pre-production prototypes being spotted near the Mercedes-Benz Research & Development Center in Sindelfingen over the last couple of weeks.
This is the first time that a Mercedes-Benz MLC 63 AMG has been spied though, and we can finally see the not-that-different overall stance of the AMG variant compared with the “standard” model.
Last, but not least, the piece of resistance for making us believe this is the MLC 63 AMG variant is the exhaust system with four exit tail pipes, which should be connected to one of two probable engines.
We are speculating that the new M177/M178 family of engines might be introduced on other models in the future Mercedes-Benz lineup, with the MLC being one of them.
Created by conjoining two M133 two-liter four-cylinders from the A, CLA and GLA 45 AMG into a V8, the new four-liter eight-cylinder should reliably develop between 476 hp and over 700 hp, while also offering a much better fuel consumption compared with the M157.
We are not entirely sure about that, but we do know that the AMG version should arrive at least six months after the “regular” model gets launched, which would make it a MY 2016 car.
AMG design features are abundant
If you squint your eyes like a pair of inuit snow goggles, you will see that the front end is sporting the trademarked single-bar engine grille, which is an AMG trademark, while the front bumper seems to be sporting an A-shaped air intake, as with every other AMG model out there.Last, but not least, the piece of resistance for making us believe this is the MLC 63 AMG variant is the exhaust system with four exit tail pipes, which should be connected to one of two probable engines.
Powaah!
Most recent reports talk about the M157 being used on one more occasion in the big BMW X6-fighter, with the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 to offer 557 hp and 720 Nm (531 lb ft) of torque in the “basic” version and 585 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb ft) of torque in the S-Model variant. We are speculating that the new M177/M178 family of engines might be introduced on other models in the future Mercedes-Benz lineup, with the MLC being one of them.

What's in a name?
Keep in mind that according to another recent speculation, the Mercedes-Benz MLC might actually be called ML-Coupe or M-Class Coupe, which would get the 63 AMG moniker as an extra when it comes to the model in the adjacent images. We are not entirely sure about that, but we do know that the AMG version should arrive at least six months after the “regular” model gets launched, which would make it a MY 2016 car.
