After production started in February 2014, the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W205) will soon spawn two more derivates - a convertible and a coupe model. The latter is expected to debut this fall at IAA 2015 (Frankfurt Motor Show) and, from the looks of it, R&D is almost finished for the C-Class Coupe.
The most revealing spy photographs yet depict a less camouflaged prototype of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. The swirly black and white camouflage of yesteryear is gone, yet the rear fascia and fenders of the coupe are still dressed in “no peeking” clothes.

If anything, the taillights can be easily observed. Albeit different, the clusters resemble those of the new-gen Mercs such as the S-Class, GLE Coupe and the GLC Coupe Concept we’ve seen in Shanghai back in April.

Underpinned by the MRA platform we encounter on the W205, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is resembling a shrunken down S-Class Coupe (C127). Whereas the C127’s engine options start with a force-fed 4.7-liter V8, the C205 will probably feature a 2-liter turbo inline-4 with 243 horsepower on tap.

Other than the entry-level powerplant, the C400 Coupe should get a 329 horsepower twin-turbo V6 while the C450 AMG Coupe is expected to churn out 362 horsepower or so. On the turbo diesel front, the Mercedes-Benz OM651 family of oil burners will take care of things in 2,143 cc format.

Will the Mercedes-AMG skunkworks division work its magic for the far-away Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe? We’re betting a tenner it will, sporting the same 469 and 503 horsepower as the four-door sedan variants.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is the three-pointed star’s answer to the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5.
