Believe it or not, but it seems that someone who is in charge of marketing and PR at Mercedes-Benz might have been instructed to add a small easter egg inside the freakishly-long C-Class T-Modell S205 press release.
As it happens, we were right all along when we said that the upcoming C-Class Plug-in Hybrid will get the “C 350” moniker, since its combined power output should be similar to that of a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine.

Plus, it seems that we were also dead right when guessing the type of propulsion, as the model will indeed feature a turbocharged four-cylinder running beside an electric motor that can either assist or provide propulsion by itself.

The information that really made us enable our “bragging mode” was found hidden in the aforementioned C-Class Estate press release, where Mercedes-Benz specifies at one point that the future C 350 Hybrid with plug-in technology will generate a power output of "155+50 kW", or in other words 279 hp.

If some of you remember, we have always said that the Mercedes-Benz C 350 Plug-in will use the M274 DE 20 AL two liter engine that can be found in any 250-branded modern Mercedes-Benz. Unsurprisingly, it delivers exactly 155 kW (211 hp or 208 bhp) and 350 Nm (258 lb ft) of torque.

The one detail that we almost got wrong was the output of the electric motor, which we said it will deliver around 70 hp, while Mercedes-Benz just told us it will actually have 55 kW (68 hp or 67 bhp).

Just like its bigger brother, the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-in Hybrid, the pluggable C 350 Hybrid will feature an oversized lithium-ion battery that will give it an all-electric range of about 30 km (19 miles), making for a combined fuel economy of just three liters of fuel per 100 km (78.4 mpg).

Expect more details about the new C-Class model towards the end of the year, with the car expected to be unveiled at the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show.
