UPDATE: 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S Price Leaked for the US Market

Succeeding the pomp and circumstance-laden live debut at AMG’s Affalterbach location, US pricing of the Mercedes-AMG GT S has been leaked recently through an official document published by Jalopnik. With no further beating around the bush, the lowest you can go for the uber coupe is $129,900, almost $1k less than the track-oriented Porsche 911 GT3.

After the SLS AMG (cool gullwing doors and all) has been phased out of production, Merc’s skunkworks came out with the second machine fully developed in-house by the Affalterbach boffins. And you’re not wrong on this one - the more powerful AMG GT S precedes the GT for reasons not yet explained by AMG. Word on the street is that the entry-level 456 HP Mercedes-AMG GT arrives in the United States early next year.

Now then, what does $129,900 buy you exactly? In US-spec format, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S is boasting with an M178 4.0 twin-turbo V8 lump that churns out 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm).

Slated to arrive at dealerships this spring, the GT S does the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) run in 3.7 seconds

Other highlight standard features include a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, an electronically controlled limited slip differential, the AMG Dynamic Exhaust System with electronically controlled variable vane, AMG’s Dynamic suspension and the Dynamic Select feature with selectable suspension/steering modes.

Joining the previous features are a rearview parking camera, high-quality Nappa leather upholstery and advanced safety wizardry (Collision Prevention Assist Plus and many other). Now a quick question for our readers: if your money was on the table, will it be the $129,900 Mercedes-AMG GT S or its closest rival from Europe - the lesser performant but mega gorgeous 550 horsepower $99,000 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe?

UPDATE: The base GT variant goes on sale in the US in spring 2016 with 456 HP and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque and a 0 - 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. More information on pricing and equipment levels for both the Mercedes-AMG GT S and GT will be made available closer to their respective launch dates.
