2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S Chosen Best Driver's Car by Motor Trend

The end of the year is drawing near, so we're getting for different publications to start nominating their best cars of 2015. First up the list is MOTOR TREND who has just revealed their choice for Best Driver's Car, and unsurprisingly, it's the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S.

Apart from the AMG GT S, the full list of models that challenged the Motor Trend title featured names such as the 2015 Bentley Continental GT3-R, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (Z07), the 2015 Lexus RC F, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 S, the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4, and finally the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R. They are pretty different cars, but just for the sake of it, you can see a drag race between the whole lineup at this link.

All ten cars were driven on the road and on the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track in order to decide which offered the most thrilling experience. Apart from the road testing and the track hot laps, some very modern equipment was employed to draw all kind of techincal data from the tested cars.

Speaking about the winner, this is what MOTOR TREND editor-in-chief Ed Loh had to say: "The Mercedes-AMG GT S has the sharpest, most precise steering we have ever felt on any Mercedes or AMG vehicle. It makes massive power from a compact, high-tech turbocharged V-8 engine. What most impressed my team is how well the GT S was able to combine these elements. It put all 503 of its horsepower to the ground like an all-wheel-drive supercar and gripped the road through high-speed corners like a winged racer."

The whole competition is a massive event involving no less than 25 men including MOTOR TREND editors, photographers, video producers and well-known racing driver Randy Pobst. Every measure is being taken to make sure the cars are tested and evaluated in the most professional manner.

Obviously elated by the result, Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of MBUSA, had a pretty substantial 'thank-you' speech: "The Mercedes-AMG GT S was developed entirely in-house by the racing experts at Mercedes-AMG, and we are extremely proud to accept this honor on behalf of our employees here in the U.S. and the talented team in Affalterbach who continue to push the boundaries of high performance, exclusivity and overall driving pleasure. From its powerful new AMG 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine, lightweight aluminum construction, optimum weight distribution and highly emotional design, this dream car is the culmination of a triumphant motorsport heritage and an unwavering focus to consistently deliver the AMG brand promise of Driving Performance on every level."
