Mercedes may consider 2015 to be the year of the SUV, but that doesn't mean fast coupe drivers should feel left out. A recent speculative report suggests the new C63 AMG Coupe will land on the scene this autumn, during the Frankfurt Motor Show and hopefully, it will be everything a BMW M4 rival needs to be.
Guessing what will power this car is easy. That's why the thing that really caught our attention in Auto Express' report is that their insider told them "It looks fantastic – not necessarily what you would expect this car to look like".
We could interpret that as meaning that it's softer, more elegant. The old C63 AMG Coupe was a bit of a brute, designed with sharp edges and DTM-like fender flares. Mercedes now has a much wider pallet of cars, so the super-C may not need to be quite as berserk.
The engine will be taken directly from the new C63 saloon and wagon. The basic setup will see the 4.0-liter V8 delivering 476 PS and 650 Nm of torque. There will also ben a C63 S Coupe with cool center-lock wheels, plus a power boost to 510 hp and 700 Nm.
In both case, the power will be sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a7-speed AMG Speedshift MCT and a limited slip diff. Expect to see 0 to 100 km/h take only 4 seconds, if not less.
For the record, a BMW M4 makes due with two fewer cylinders, its 3-liter biturbo delivering 431 PS and 550 Nm of torque. Audi is still stuck with a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 pushing 450 PS when screaming at 8,250 rpm. There's also a somewhat unworthy competitor to mention here, the RC F. Lexus' coupe is undoubtedly sexy, but the 5-liter V8 pushing 467 hp can't compensate for the weight of the body.
