DAMD is a company we first discovered when they tried to turn a Toyota GT 86 into an Aston Martin. However, for the 2016 Mazda MX-5 roadster, they haven't tried anything those silly lines.
Everybody's favorite little roadster is getting the kind of treatment it deserves, being spoiled with aero parts and carbon fiber trim.
The DAMD body kit consists of a new front spoiler, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a spoiler. Everything is made from high-quality carbon fiber, at least according to the manufacturer. Everything bolts onto the factory body without there being a need to remove the bumpers.
An optional set of OZ Ultralegera 18-inch wheels has been fitted to this MX-5, giving it a drift car appearance. Furthermore, the standard suspension has been replaced by harder and lower shocks and springs from Spirit Racing. Bridgestone POTENZA RE-002 215/35/18 tires also hint towards a track application for this car.
Everything is done tastefully (for a tuning project). It's not as in-your-face as the project cars from Kuhl Racing or Aimgain. Still the contrast between the black paint and the red accents is sure to draw some attention.
There are no other performance changes to speak of, but the engine can be matched up to an optional stainless steel exhaust system with quad pipes. It's worth noting that in Japan, the Miata ca only be ordered with a 1.5-liter engine making about 130 horsepower, so the exhaust isn't relevant for the 2.0-liter engines found on U.S. cars.
At extra cost, DAMD can also tint the windows of the MX-5 and even install a custom leather interior. In this case, they are showing us a cabin dressed in dark Nappa leather with red stripes on the seats and steering wheel to match those on the body.
Revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier in 2016, the Dark Knight Miata by DAMD is now available for order in Japan.
