Finally, FoMoCo's luxury division got the cat out of the bag and oh how nice things are shaping up for Lincoln. After the guys redesigned the Navigator and launched the all-new MKC, time has come for the MKX mid-size five-seater crossover to take the stage with its elegant and dramatic front fascia design.
What we are looking here is, in fact, the posher brother of the 2015 Ford Edge, CD4 underpinnings and all. The Edge itself is a good-looking family hauler, but Ford took things up a notch or two with the 2016 Lincoln MKX and its concept car-inspired styling.
What strikes you most when you peer through the photo gallery below is, as expected from a modern Lincoln, the imposing split-wing grille and the (optional) LED-accented headlights.
Moving on to the rest of the vehicle, you are presented with black-painted plastic cladding, a tailgate spoiler, a duo of exit pipes for the exhaust and wraparound taillamps that give the MKX a wide stance.
As for the cabin design, we're happy to announce it's business as usual from a Lincoln product.
Optional 22-way power front seats, fine leather, SYNC infotainment enhanced by a Revel audio system, wood, metal trim, the whole nine yards. It's a shame that the interior design is too Fusion-like for our liking.
As anyone can expect from a 2016 MY vehicle with luxury in its nature, the list of standard and available features is complemented by a huge amount of safety and driving aids, including a 360-degree camera system, automatic parallel and perpendicular parking, pre-collision assist, BLIS and cross-traffic alert.
The 2016 Lincoln MKX can be ordered in 2WD or AWD format with a choice of two engines. Starting with the basic 3.7 V6 that pushes 300-plus HP and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm), the more potent powerplant comes in the form of a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 which promises to develop "more than" 330 HP and 370 lb-ft (501 Nm).
To go on sale in the US this fall, both MKXs come with a 6-speed automatic with push-button shift.
