After some renders and rumors saying that the new Lexus RX will face the music at the Detroit Auto Show - which didn’t happen, by the way - Lexus are finally telling us that the SUV will make an official debut at the 2015 NYIAS. And they also have a picture to back that up with.
We’ll settle for calling that a picture for now, but from where we’re standing it looks like just another obscure rendering showing the side of the car and its right side taillights. We’ll put that aside for now, as it doesn’t reveal much but as usual, there’s plenty of speculation to be done on styling cues.

In fact, voices are saying that Lexus will adopt an evolutionist approach on the new RX, which will receive the current generation’s shapes but in a sleeker and sharper fashion. The front fascia could come from the NX, the taillights will be redesigned - as the teaser photo confirms - and we’ll probably see a nice set of dual exhausts integrated in the rear bumper.

Some reports were suggesting a 3-row seating arrangement could be inserted into RX’s new layout, since competition is already offering that on SUVs like Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Pathfinder Hyundai Grand Santa Fe - of course, only in top trim levels.

In the engine department, clients might get a feeling of deja-vu as the 2016 RX is likely to carry over the existing US-oriented range with some tweaks here and there, mostly to favor an increased fuel economy. In addition, we could also see a new 8-speed automatic transmission replacing the current 6-speed auto gearbox. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
