Over the course of the past couple of years, Lexus has given its dated designs a thorough refresh with what everybody now knows as "the spindle grille". It dominates the front end design of all their cars now, though its implementation has only been well received on a few models.
The RX is by far one of their most successful models and back in 2012, it received its mid-life facelift via that year's Geneva Motor Show. Sales continued to rise as a result and in 2015, a brand new model could arrive.

A report from Edmunds.com suggests the 2016 model year Lexus NX will bow at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, which is about two weeks away. Little is known about the car, but the same report claims the 4th generation SUV will be noticeably bigger, perhaps even as large as a BMW X5, since the new NX SUV is the about size of an X3.

Earlier reports indicated that a 3-row seating arrangement could also be implemented, something buyers can already have as standard on slightly cheaper SUVs like the Nissan Pathfinder or Mitsubishi Outlander (top trim level only).

Graphics manipulator Theophilus Chin has tried to render the all-new 2016 Lexus RX. The result is a cross between the current generation and the new NX, which has more pronounced lines and edges. Of course, Lexus likes to make every car different, unlike its German rivals. So we could see the RX offer a much softer design, one that appeals to their typical older customer.

The engines for the US model are likely to be carried over with minor tweaks made to improve refinement or fuel economy. The biggest powertrain change will be a reported swap of the 6-speed automatic for an 8-speed, most likely the famous ZF 8HP unit Aisin.

Will the RX Mk4 be much lighter than its predecessor? Will they offer diesel or that new 2-liter turbo? Will there be an F Sport model? Stay glued to our blog and in about a fortnight we should have the answers.
