Also, Kia claims the interior of the 2016 Kia Sportage features "high-quality materials and design integrity, as well as great practicality and a range of technologies to improve comfort, convenience, connectivity and safety." From where we're standing, that's ambitious, but let's take each aspect at a time.

First and foremost, buyers will have the possibility of choosing between 7-inch and 8-inch touchscreen displays. Moreover, passengers will benefit from a more comfortable and spacious environment. Why? Because the new Kia Sportage comes with additional 5 mm of headroom in the front and 16 mm for those sitting in the back.

Also, legroom is now a more generous features, as engineers increased it by 19 mm up front and 7 mm at the rear, due to a 30 mm longer wheelbase (now measuring 2,670 mm).

The central console is tilted ten degrees towards the driver while the Sportage can now be had with three-way front heat seating, 10-way power control. Also, customers will be offered lumbar support for the driver’s seat and eight-way power control for the passenger seat.

You also need to know the new seat system uses stiffer seat frames and redesigned springs and pads. Plus, seat weight was reduced by 2.5 kilograms.

Moreover, road noise is further reduced – from 66 to 63 dB. This was possible by coming up with new bushings in the rear suspension to isolate unwanted sounds.

Cargo space for the new Sportage has been upgraded to 503 liters, while buyers get to use a dual-height luggage floor, allowing taller items to fit into the boot and remain hidden by the tonneau cover.

On the safety side, the new 2016 Sportage is packed with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keeping Assist System, High Beam Assist and Speed Limit Information Function.

Engines

At launch the 2016 Kia Sportage will be available with a 1.6-liter GDI mill good for 132 horsepower and 161 Nm of torque. In addition, engineers came up with a turbocharged version that takes the power to 177 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque.

From the diesel deparment, clients can opt for the 1.7-liter CRDi mill - also recommended for those looking to save fuel. The unit is available in two power outputs: 136 horsepower, 373 Nm. and 184 horsepower, 400 Nm.
