2016 Kawasaki Z1000SX Gets Slipper Clutch and New Blue Color

Good news arrives from Akashi to those looking forward to buying a new Kawasaki sport-touring bike. The 2016 model year Z1000SX machine receives a cool new blue livery and a completely new clutch, but the price remains unchanged from the previous edition.

The most important upgrade is, unquestionably, the addition of a slipper clutch. The FCC assist and slipper clutch offers a 30% lighter lever feel, appealing to both sport riders and touring lovers who are used to carrying a pillion and luggage.

The total spring load is reduced while operating under normal circumstances, as the clutch works like a self-locking mechanism. The faster it spins, the tighter the plates draw together, while rolling the throttle off releases a bit of tension.

During hard engine brakes and rougher downshifting, the clutch disengages a bit, allowing the plates to slide against each other, reducing the brutal deceleration and preventing the rear wheel from hopping.

ABS is standard for both the SX and SX Tourer

Both the base and the Touring versions of the 2016 Z1000SX will have ABS as standard and retain the radial mount calipers and wave rotors, but the price will remain unchanged, Kawasaki says. The race-proven gas-charged horizontal back-link rear suspension comes with stepless rebound damping and remote spring preload adjustability, just like the front forks.

Othe valuable features have also been retained, such as the dual power modes, 3-way traction control, dual-stage throttle valves and the Eco Riding light indicator.

The classic green livery received new accents, and is complemented by a new Candy Plasma Blue/ Metallic Spark Black color option. We only know the UK price of the bike in stock trim, and it is £9,699 (equivalent to $14,815 or €13,198) plus on-the-road taxes, but the rest of Europe and the US will certainly see it with a lower tag.
