British people in the market for a premium compact crossover, the 2016 Infiniti QX30 is now available to order starting at £29,490 for the Premium trim. The better equipped Premium Tech is priced at £33,370.
Compared to the entry-level Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 d Sport (£27,385) and the BMW X1 sDrive18d (£27,090), the Infiniti QX30 is a more costly proposition. The thing is, the QX30 is equipped with AWD, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a 170 horsepower 2.1-liter turbo diesel from square one.

If you were to equip the technically identical Merc and the Bavarian model to the specification of a 2016 Infiniti QX30 Premium, you would be spending significantly more money. The more pressing question is, how does the QX30 differ from the 2016 Infiniti Q30 (£20,550)?

For starters, the suspension is raised by 30 millimeters in the QX30. Other details that set the QX30 apart from its lesser brother are the moldings on the wheel arches, front and rear skid plates, the roof rails, and the addition of an X between Q and 30. And yes, the Infiniti QX30 comes with AWD as standard as compared to the Q30. More specifically, a Haldex clutch part-time job for a boost in efficiency.

When it debuted in L.A. last November, Roland Krueger, the president of Infiniti, had the following to say about the GLA-based model: "The QX30 active crossover is joining our new premium compact family at the right time and will broaden our offer to new customers around the world. With our recent sales successes and record growth, the current product offensive will further strengthen Infiniti's global market position."

The Infiniti Q30 is made at the Nissan production facility in Sunderland, UK. The QX30 is slated to join its brother a little later, with first units expected to arrive in European showrooms this summer. Infiniti hopes to shift more than 173,000 cars this calendar year with the help of the Q30 and the QX30. Based on the interest garnered by the Q30 in Europe, it is very likely the brand will do better than it did last year.
