Indian Motorcycle reveals the latest addition to their cruiser line-up, the 2016 model year Springfield. Named after the birthplace of the Indian motorbikes, the Springfield builds on the new Chief platform, yet it brings forth enhanced functionality with a penchant for longer hauls.
Looking at the 2016 Indian Springfield, it boasts a strong similarity to the Chief Vintage, but there is more to this bike than meets the eye. Designed for riders who would use the Springfield for both casual strides across town and longer trips across the borderline, the new bike can effortlessly change its attitude as needed.
A special design quick-release windshield can be attached before long trips, adding weather and wind protection for both rider and passenger. Uninstalling the windshield takes a couple of minutes, and you're ready for the wind-in-your-hair sensation.
The bike comes standard with ABS, a tire pressure monitoring system, electronic cruise control for the open road, a powerful headlight and dual auxiliary headlights. Also, the passenger floorboards are adjustable, and the bike comes with a rear buckhorn handlebar for a relaxed riding position.
All in all, the Springfield can carry a total weight of 242kg (533lb), and can be accessorized in many ways with items from the options list, such as a tall and low windshield, heated driver and passenger seats, soft lowers and heated grips, Remus exhausts and more.
The engine is the same Thunder Stroke 111 unit that produces, 138.9 Nm (102.3 lb-ft) of torque at 2,600 rpm, sporting a belt drive and a six-speed transmission. The Springfield tips the scales at 372kg (818lb) dry and can carry 20.8 liters (5.5 US gal) of fuel.
Available in Thunder Black and in Indian Motorcycle Red, the 2016 Indian Springfield comes with a base price of €27,000 in Europe and $20.999 in the US.
