Only a few weeks after it was shown in Korea, the refreshed Hyundai Veloster has made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show in US-spec trim. Going on sale this May as a 2016 model year, it brings a new trim level and that VW-rivaling 7-speed dual-clutch transmission we've been waiting for.
Just like in other markets, the 2016 Veloster gets an updated grille with a hexagonal design, new wheels and a better infotainment display. No changes have been made to the 201-hp 1.6-liter turbo, but it's now paired to a 7-speed twin-clutch auto with a manual mode and paddle shifters.

The Veloster turbo also has a new sports seat design with color accents and a redesigned instrument gauge. A new Turbo-exclusive18-inch machined-finish alloy wheel design have also been added and it's matched to 10mm wider tires for better traction.

Furthermore, all models fitted with the Turbo engine now come with an active noise system that uses the speakers to simulate extra exhaust sound. They also have something Torque Vectoring Control (TVC), which uses the ESC system to simulate the work a limited slip differential by braking the inside wheel of the car.

The regular 2016 Veloster still comes with a 138-hp 1.6-liter engine, but offers a a revised hood appearance without vent accents plus dark gray grille surround. You can also order it with a new 6-speed EcoShift twin-clutch transmission, which Hyundai says offers the best of both world – comfort and performance.

A special edition model shown for the first time in Chicago is the 2016 Veloster Rally Edition, which is based on the Turbo R-Spec, but has stiffer suspension, a revised stabilizer bar and a B&M Racing short shifter for the 6-speed manual. It's the car in our photos and you may have noticed that Matte Blue pant has been applied. Only 1,200 examples will be built, which considering they sold around 27,000 Velosters in the US last year isn't lot.
