With the 10-generation Honda Civic Sedan having recently hit the market, the coupe version is now almost here. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait until next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show to see the sporty incarnation of the Civic, as our spy photographers have just caught the vehicle out in the wild.
The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe was spotted wearing almost no camouflage, albeit with the photographers having to shoot from the distance.

As it also happens in the case of the sedan, the Coupe will make full use of the new platform that serves the 10th-generation Civic. We’re talking about significant weight savings, accompanied by an increase in torsional rigidity that should ensure the driving seat entertainment.

As for the connection to the road, this is established with the help of an all-new setup implying MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup at the back.

The Coupe should also borrow the sedan’s engine line-up, which means the entry-level model will be motivated by a naturally-aspirated 2-liter engine delivering 158 hp and 138 lb-ft (187 Nm) of twist.

However, the star will be Honda’s all-new 1.5-liter turbo, which produces 175 hp and a peak torque of 163 lb-ft (221 Nm).

Later on in the model’s life, Honda will also introduce a Civic Si Coupe warm sports car, while we can only hope for the Type R badge to join the party. We’ll remind you that, while a Type R hatch has recently been launched in Europe, the US isn’t expected to receive this. However, we spied a fresh Civic Type R using the 10th generation platform last month.

We’ll have to wait for Honda to introduce the Civic hatchback next year, while the Type R (we don’t know what body types the badge will be used for) is expected to land in 2017 as a 2018 model.

As we said, the 2016 Civic Coupe will bow next week at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, with the venue set to kick off on November 18.
