2016 Honda Civic Coupe Red Bull Global Rallycross Race Car Debuts in New York

The New York Auto Show is all about the Honda Civic this year. There's the Civic Hatchback Prototype that we showed you yesterday, a custom project signed by Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, culminating with this awesome race car based on the 2-door model.

The 2016 Civic Coupe is so new that its design hasn't had a chance to sink in yet. Honda plans to keep it that way by turning it into the wet dream of every Civic fan. It's got bigger fenders, candy apple red wheels and a giant wheel.

Honda is very active in motorsport, from the Pirelli World Challenge to the Verizon IndyCar Series. However, the Rallycross Civic Coupe is definitely their best idea yet. The specially modified car makes more than 600 horsepower and can rocket from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2 seconds.

If Ken Block's recent Gymkhana video proves anything, it's that a rallycross racer is faster than nearly every car you idolize. Honda says that it's even rugged enough to handle 70-foot jumps. Take that Subaru!

Two seasoned race car drivers will get the pleasure of trying to win with the yet untested Civic in the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. One of them is from Sweden, the other from Finland and they have really cool names that make them sound like heroes of the Scandinavian flick. We'll see how they do in Phoenix at the first event of the season.

"Global Rallycross is seriously extreme racing, and it's a terrific platform to showcase the new Civic Coupe to an enthusiastic, performance-minded young audience," said Nick Lee, National Advertising Manager, American Honda Motor Co, Inc. "We won't encourage our customers to take 70-foot jumps out on the street, but we will use this platform to tell people about all the incredible technology and performance capabilities of our new Civic Coupe."

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
