If you are in Florida this week and visit the AIMExpo, you can meet the 2016 Honda CBR500R in the flesh, as House Tokyo decided to pull the wraps off this model at the North American show. The bike comes with a sharper, edgier and more aggressive design language than the one Honda has used on its smaller bikes so far.
This move is a natural one, as the CBR500R addresses beginners. A stronger resemblance to the manufacturer's top-of-the-line superbike is a most welcome feature, even though the half-liter machine is not a scaled model of the CBR1000RR. Still, the new CBR500R retains a strong superbike vibe and this will most likely help Honda push large amounts of bikes.

An A2-friendly bike with evil looks

Despite its big-bike looks, the 2016 Honda CBR500R is A2-compliant. The power is, therefore, under 47 horsepower, but Honda refrained from telling the media the exact figure. We can guesstimate that they just got as close to the limit as legally possible.

The new bike receives preload adjustability for the fork, adjustable levers, and a larger fuel tank. The MPG figures are yet to be decided, according to Honda's website, but the 4.1 US gal (15.5 liter) tank is expected to provide a very good range even for longer travels.

Adding in an optional luggage system could turn the 2016 Honda CBR500R into a very interesting choice. The shorter exhaust is also a big plus for installing travel amenities, and Honda says its internal structure was also tweaked for a crisp low-end timbre.

Other features worth mentioning are the ABS brakes with a generous 320mm wave front rotor, LED headlights and all-digital dashboard that harks back to MotoGP machinery. The 2016 Honda CBR500R will be available both with and without ABS for a price that has yet to be announced. As color options for this 471cc parallel-twin sporty bike Honda offers Matte Black Metallic, Red, and Pearl White.
