After the Japanese manufacturer teased the BR-V through two sketches back in June, the 2016 Honda BR-V made its official debut in production-ready guise at the 32nd Thailand International Motor Expo. In its segment, the BR-V is the only subcompact crossover to offer three rows of seats.
That’s right - the interior packaging of the 2016 Honda BR-V provides space for seven people and their gear. Truth be told, the third-row seats are suitable for children and those few adults who can do the Lotus position. Happily, however, the standard Honda BR-V comes as a strict five-seater machine.
Depending on specification, interior equipment includes automatic air conditioning with air vents for the rear passengers, a stylish dashboard design, and touchscreen infotainment with satellite navigation. Despite its dimensions (4,455 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width) and its 200 mm ground clearance, the Honda BR-V isn’t exactly the kind of crossover you can climb every mountain and ford every stream with because it is only available with front-wheel drive and a small capacity powerplant.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 1.5-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC engine that pushes 120 PS (118 hp) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. The 16-valve motor is compatible with E85 fuel. As far as cog-swapping is concerned, customers of this low-budget crossover can opt for either a newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. On the outside, the BR-V presents itself as a rugged yet urban-oriented proposition. Projector headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights come as standard.
The 16-inch alloy wheels and underbody protection are on the options list, as are the Modulo exterior accessories. But then again, its sculpted body shell, generous side skirts, and plastic cladding on the wheel arches are the things that make the 2016 Honda BR-V appealing to the younger crowd.
