This year we had the pleasure (and the curiosity) to partake in the Gumball 3000 Rally. We actually held a little journal of our trip and finished it off with a nice cover story that should help you decide whether this crazy event is for you or not.
However, as soon as the proceedings ended it was time for the big Gumball family to think about the next adventure and we managed to learn that in 2016, the cars and VIPs will be traveling from Dublin to Istanbul. That’s right, no more intercontinental flights for next year.

Traveling only across Europe is not a bad thing though, no matter how you look at it. There are so many beautiful roads to drive on that it’s simply crazy to think that one could get bored behind the steering wheel of his car around the Old Continent.

The problem with our initial info was that we didn’t know exactly what route Maximillion will choose as driving from Ireland to Turkey can be achieved in a number of ways. Well, now we know.

A recent rumor says that the route chosen will go from Dublin to Edinburgh, London, the Swiss Alps, Budapest, Bucharest and finally Istanbul. The whole thing will take place between April 30th and May 7th.

That route does seem a bit peculiar but also makes sense when looked at from a distance. That’s because going through Edinburgh and London would be a repeat of what happened two years ago in the same rally. However, there are some breathtaking landscapes and roads to be enjoyed in this configuration as well.

For example, the Swiss Alps will prove to be an incredible place to drive on, with amazing scenery and incredible altitudes. Speaking of which, the trip will also include Romania and you know what hides in the Eastern European country? The best driving road in the world.

At least that’s what Top Gear said when the team visited Romania back in 2009. The Transfagarasan highway was highly praised and looking at the footage they recorded, we can wholeheartedly agree. On top of that, the country also has an even higher and twistier road and it’s far less marketed: the Transalpina highway.

The best bit about these two is that they are next to each other and could be covered in only one day, with the team resting in Bucharest for the night before heading to Istanbul. Another way to go would be to travel from Budapest to the Transalpina highway, spend the night on it and then cover the Transfagarasan road to Bucharest and stop there for another night.

Either way, the parties will be crazy and we’re bound to get some extra nice shots next year as well. Therefore, stay tuned to learn more about what next year’s Gumball will be all about.
