Back in February, General Motors unveiled the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox mid-size crossover. It was only natural for platform brother 2016 GMC Terrain to follow suit, and here it is. As ever, the mechanical bits and bobs are kept in check by the Theta platform.
I’m not trying to nitpick here, but GM introduced the Theta a whopping 13 years ago, when new format Top Gear was airing its first season. Dear General Motors, we know you’re working on the D2XX/D2UX platform. Dear GM, please phase out the geriatric Theta already.

Don't get me wrong. The Theta architecture is as versatile as they come, but it’s a bit sad to milk the cash cow for so long. Back to the 2016 GMC Terrain then. Featured in the photo gallery below are the reddish SLT model and the black-painted Denali derivative.

Updates over the 2015 GMC Terrain, you ask? C-shaped lower chrome trim and redesigned fascias are the most important, as are the LED DRLs and the power dome hood design. On the inside, we’re able to identify a mildly revised center stack. GMC also promises updated control graphics for the 8” infotainment system.

Slated to go on sale this coming fall, the 2016 GMC Terrain will be available with a choice of two engines. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive can be mated to a 2.4-liter EcoTEC or a 3.6-liter V6 lump.

A FWD 2016 GMC Terrain with the 2.4L engine can return 32 mpg (7.3 l/100 km) highway. On the other hand, the 301 HP and 272 lb-ft (369 Nm) 3.6L V6 is capable of trailering up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kilos).
