There's no doubt about China's importance as a market for worldwide carmakers, and after Mercedes-Benz and Volvo came up with exclusive China-dedicated models, Ford adopts the same tactics with the new 2016 Taurus.
After a close look at the pictures provided by Ford, you'll instantly see how the Taurus resembles its Fusion brother, especially in the front area, but gained extra dimensions.

Design-wise, Ford gifted the 2016 Taurus with a slightly toned-down Aston Martin-esque front grille, framed by LED headlights and foglights. LED is the word to describe the car's taillights which team-up with chrome exhaust tips to add a touch of flashiness in the back.

The new Ford Taurus will rely on a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost powerplant, but Ford won't reveal it's power output or maximum torque just yet. The car's production will be handled by the Changan Ford Hangzhou plant the Blue Oval built in China after an investment of $760 million.

The entire affair is a tricky bet for Ford, a situation that transforms the 2016 Taurus into a now-or-never car, especially after the company shut down its Genk facility and shifted Mondeo production to Valencia, Spain.

Knowing the huge appetite Chinese customers have for spacious and highly-polished interiors, Ford gave the 2016 Taurus a 2,950 mm (116.1 in) wheelbase. As a result, officials were quick to describe the car's cabin as an "exceptionally roomy" one, with plenty of leg room and generous shoulder and hip space for passengers sitting in the back.

Moreover, materials used to enhance the cabin are "soft and durable", according to Ford officials. Supple leather is spread around the interior, along with chrome and wood trim for the extra elegant touch.

Those in the back get the best of Ford's attention, no doubt about it. But that's precisely what Chinese buyers expect, so here's your explanation for the power reclining rear seats with optional adjustable lumbar support and a massage function.

There's also a control dashboard that manages air conditioning, seat functions, and the infotainment system, placed in the center seat cushion.

We're still waiting for the US-bound 2016 Ford Taurus, which we believe will be a twin brother of the Chinese version. But since Ford has no info on that at the moment, we'll wait until the model launch scheduled to happen later this year.
