2016 Ford Focus RS vs. Focus ST Acceleration Test Has Bonus Autobahn Drag Race

This time around, though, we want to bring you a battle involving the RS and the next best Focus, namely the ST.

Nevertheless, unlike the Blue Oval adventure we brought you yesterday, the one you can find at the bottom of the page isn't an actual drag race, but an instrument cluster comparison.

We won't waste your time by dropping the specs of the two go-fast compact features, as all the figures you need are included in the clip. However, we need to remind you that the Focus ST weight mentioned in the clip seems odd, since the vehicle actually tips the scales at around 3,100 lbs (1,400 kg).

Oh, and by the way, why is the RS so heavy? Well, for starters, the GKN-supplied all-wheel-drive system of the hatchback, with its twin clutch packs that allow for the Drift Mode to work, has its weight price. Then there's the engine compartment discussion - the Ford Performance engineers had to make special efforts to ensure the upgraded Mustang EcoBoost engine gets proper cooling.

Returning to this video, we have to tell you the clip also includes a drag race. The shenanigan, which takes place on the Autobahn, sees the ST getting it on with a... Peugeot RCZ.

Judging by the way in which the French machine accelerates, we're dealing with the range-topping incarnation of the RCZ, which is animated by a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit delivering 270 PS.

And even though we may be talking about a deserstricted section of the German Autobahn, this kind of side-by-side games are less than legal. So, please, don't try to pull similar stunts if you happen to find yourself on a German highway.
