How do you know a car is going to be successful? Well, when over 1,500 Brits are willing to part with their hard earned cash before they’ve even seen the car in the flesh, that might be a sign.
It is a well-known fact that the hot-hatch phenomenon is big over there, but even so, we’re pretty sure 1,500 orders this soon is way more than even Ford’s most optimistic expectations, especially since there are still at least three months left until actual deliveries commence.

The funny thing is, a third of these orders were basically pre-orders, Autocar reports, as they were placed even before the final price and specs of the car were officially announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

The starting price of £28,940 only encouraged even more people to sign up for a new Focus RS, as it could be considered pretty low for a four-wheel drive car with a 350 hp engine. Speaking of the engine, it is the same 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost unit found on the Mustang, but slightly fiddled with to deliver more power.

And deliver more power it does, enough to propel the new Ford Focus RS from zero to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds, thanks in no small part to the 342 lb-ft of torque available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. The maximum available torque can be pushed to 346 lb-ft via an overboost function. And did we mention it’s an all-wheel drive vehicle?

Since it’s a new Focus RS we’re talking about, there was no way Ken Block could stay away from it, especially now that it comes with a “drift button.” Speaking about the matter, here is what the Internet’s most famous drifter had to say: "It’s mainly a yaw control. There’s so many electronics on these cars these days to keep the car from doing anything fun that they’re having to put that stuff back in."

As you would expect, a lot of those making early deposits for the new car are previous owners of RS models - happy returning customers are every company’s dream.
