The Ford Falcon is one of the longest-running nameplates in continuous production since its inception. With great regret, though, the story that started in 1960 will end by October 2016. The Ford Mondeo and Mustang will indirectly replace the Falcon, but until that moment comes, Ford Australia prepared a last hurrah.
Introducing the 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint and the XR6 Sprint. The two siblings will be produced in limited numbers: 850 examples of the XR8 Sprint and 550 examples of the XR6 Sprint. Thanks to black-painted 19-inch wheels, unique body side graphics, gold brake calipers, and black headlight bezels, it’s hard to confuse the Sprint with the standard models.

As for the goodies you’ll find inside, the Sprint boasts SYNC 2 infotainment with satellite navigation, premium audio system, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Distinctive styling elements include the leather and suede seats embroidered with Sprint lettering, the gear lever, and the instrument cluster. But let’s be frank here - nobody buys a Sprint for that.

The men and women who will drop AUD 54,990 (approx. $38,660) for the XR6 Sprint and AUD 59,990 (approx. $43,720) for the XR8 Sprint are interested in what lies under the hood. Customers can choose between a turbocharged 4.0-liter straight-six with 325 kW (436 horsepower) and 576 Nm (425 lb-ft) of torque or a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 345 kW (462 HP) and 575 Nm (424 lb-ft). What is that you’re saying? Not nearly enough ponies and torque?

Ford Australia has a solution to your need for more. Both the XR6 Sprint and XR8 Sprint have an overboost function. When active, the 4.0-liter I6 ups the ante to 370 kW (496 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). The 5.0-liter V8, on the other hand, unleashes 400 kW (536 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).
