Due to the rising popularity of the crossover, something has to give in the European automotive industry. That something comes in the form of the C-segment hatchback, with market share shrinking year-over-year. One of the models that will try and sweeten things up in the compact 5-door segment is this - the 2016 Fiat Tipo hatchback.
Looks pretty, doesn’t it? The exterior aesthetics of the Fiat Tipo are the product of the Centro Stile Fiat design studio, a team of talented men and women united by a common goal - to make cars pretty again. The 2016 Fiat Tipo hatchback is not going to win any beauty contests, yet the design team managed to blend the functionality of a small family car with just the right amount of style.

Of course, the business end of the 5-door hatchback is the rear end. As you can see from the spy photos featured in the gallery below, the yet-to-be-launched Tipo hatchback is looking marginally better than its 4-door sedan brother. It remains to be seen if the Fiat Tipo hatchback’s trunk will have less cargo capacity than the sedan variant’s 520 liters (18.3 cuFT).

Expected to be presented at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show this March, the all-new Fiat Tipo hatchback is slated to arrive at European dealers by fall 2015. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2.63 meters (8.62 feet), the Tipo 5-door will offer just about enough leg room for five occupants. For the sake of comparison, the wheelbase mirrors that of the Volkswagen Golf.

Engine choices start with a 1.4-liter gasoline powerplant with 95 PS (70 kW) and are topped by a 1.6-liter MultiJet II turbo diesel with 120 PS (88 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. In terms of cog-swapping duties, three transmissions will have to suffice: a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic. Just like the sedan and the soon-to-debut estate, the 2016 Fiat Tipo hatchback will be assembled in Bursa, Turkey.
