When we tested the 2015 Mitsubishi L200, we were impressed by the sporty looks, hard-wearing plastics, off-road prowess, and the sheer utility it has to offer. If, however, you would rather something a bit different, something a bit more Italian, then the 2016 Fiat Fullback is the perfect workhorse for you.
The Latin half-brother of the L200 will go on sale in the UK from July 4, 2016, starting at £20,995 excluding VAT and on-the-road charges. That amount of pounds sterling is just about £250 more than the L200 Titan and enough to buy you the entry-level SX with a 148 horsepower 2.4-liter turbo diesel.
Equipment that comes as standard includes a six-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, hill hold assist, cruise control with speed limiter, and DAB radio. The higher trim level, baptized LX, is motivated by the same oil burner, albeit with 178 horsepower at your disposal.
Pricing? £22,995 excluding VAT, VED, delivery, and plates, thank you! For the five-speed automatic transmission, add £1,400 to the retail price. Tick that box from the options list and Fiat will also throw in the largest touchscreen infotainment system available on the Fullback (7-inch).
In manual flavor, the 2016 Fiat Fullback LX for the UK market gets the comfier Touring suspension, sat nav, bi-xenon headlights, keyless go, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, and safety tech such as Lane Departure Warning. Optionally, the Fiat Fullback is available with three Mopar-branded bed covers and countless other bits and bobs.
Now let’s get a bit more technical. Across the Fullback range, the payload stands at 1,035 kilograms (2,282 pounds), which is just short of the 1,050-kilogram (2,315-pound) payload of the Mitsubishi pickup truck on which it’s based on. The maximum unbraked towing capacity is 3,100 kilograms (6,834 pounds).
The technical specs of all three trim levels of the UK-spec Fullback are available in the release below.
