2016 Dacia Logan 0.9 TCe Gets Tuned, Makes 103 HP on LPG

Tuning a Dacia has always been something impossible to do with style. It turns out ugly or classless, even if you spend twice as much money as it's worth. As for the engines, what can you get from a naturally aspirated 1.6?

Turbocharging eventually arrived, but in the worst way possible. They call it downsizing, but it feels like being punched between the legs or ordering sausages and steak and getting 10 grams in the middle of the plate. The French do that.

Speaking of the French, they invented this engine, the 0.9 TCe. On paper, it sounds like the best thing ever, being both frugal and very powerful for the size. But all of the 90 horsepowers sits on the top of the shelf, where you can't reach it. And if you try to stretch out, the fuel consumption jumps up like you wouldn't believe.

But a turbo engine is a turbo engine, even if it's got three cylinders and less than 100 horsepower. We're looking at what could be the only Dacia Logan MCV with a tuned engine in the world. That's like... the only gold frosting on a public toilet or the best champagne you've had in prison.

Still, Dieselpower Race Engineering did a decent job here. The company boosted the 0.9 from 90 PS and 135 Nm to 99 PS and 155.3 Nm on regular gas. When switched to LPG, the numbers are increased to 103 PS and 165 Nm of torque.

As you might have noticed already, this isn't the regular Logan, but the Logan MCV wagon version. All Logan and Sandero models are now available with Easy-R, so you could have the first automatic Dacia with a tuned turbo petrol engine.

For the record, the same sort of 0.9 TCe mill is also used by the Renault Twingo GT and smart fortwo Brabus. They got it up to 109 PS, but that happened only thanks to better components, new exhaust, and air intake. We wonder what those cars would deliver if they also received an LPG conversion as well.
