Introduced as a 2014 model, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is all things to all men that need that extra sports car specialness without spending Ferrari money. To raise the appeal of an already hot nameplate, Chevy decided to freshen the LT1 small-block V8-powered brute for the 2016 model year.
This weekend saw the golden bowtie manufacturer unveil both the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition and the “humdrum” 2016 Corvette Stingray in coupe and convertible format. We previously covered the bells & whistles adorning the rarefied Z06 special edition, but what does the standard 2016 Corvette bring new?
As you can see from the manufacturer’s and Corvette Blogger's photographs in the adjacent gallery, the Jet Black Suede Design Package is the enhancement that trumps all other. This pack includes Jet Black suede microfiber interior upholstery (including on the steering wheel and shifter) and additional carbon fiber trim.
As a bonus, customers can also opt for Twilight Blue Design or Spice Red Design interior packages.
The 2016 Corvette Stingray is equipped with a flat-bottom steering wheel and all-new design standard wheels offered in silver, black, machined or chrome finishes. Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat and Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat exterior colors replace Velocity Yellow and Crystal Red Tintcoat. Something that may make you breathe harder is the carbon fiber hood with visible weave section, joined by a Carbon Flash option that deletes the front grille’s chrome bar.
Two-tone GT seats, available in red or gray, can be wrapped in leather or suede depending on customer preference. For the 3LT trim level, the Jet Black trim can be visually enhanced with red or yellow stitching. On the 2LT and 3LT trim levels, the 2016 Corvette can be equipped with a front curb view parking camera. Chevy also offers a power-cinch feature for coupe hatch and convertible trunk latches.
Chevrolet didn’t forget the spirited drivers when it freshened up the C7 Corvette. Driveability is augmented by Magnetic Ride Control. This damping system is available for Corvette models without the Z51 package and includes Z51-style alloy wheels and rear spoiler.
