Totally by surprise, the golden bowtie carmaker decided to showcase just a bit of the 2016 Volt at this year’s edition of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Curious enough, the vehicle was masked by the veil right after the unveiling, which caused some serious eyebrow twitching.
Twitter was alight with posts about the all-new Chevrolet Volt and this surprise preview event, but there’s something that hasn’t been said yet about the second generation of General Motors’ eco-friendly weapon of choice - looking at that chintzy face and its gawky smile, we can tell you that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt isn’t very original.
Don’t get us wrong - the successor of the highly-acclaimed first-gen Volt will certainly be a much better machine eco-wise, but in terms of styling, we don’t really get Chevy’s allusions according to which all future models will boast with visual cues inspired by the 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray.
For starters, those headlight clusters are, dare I say it, too Honda-ish (HR-V and Civic Si Coupe, my finger’s pointed at you two), while the slim strips of LED daytime running lights integrated at the sides of the front bumper are... pretty common on many modern Asian-bred vehicles, including Toyota and Kia.
Nevertheless, we look forward to January 12th, when the 2015 Detroit Auto Show will open its doors to the press. We’ll be there to report live whether our love-or-hate relationship with the styling of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is more hate than love, but until then, do follow this link to find out more about it.

But the new Volt’s uninspiring design doesn’t end here
Looking at any of the photos in the gallery below your sight will be attracted by the lower and the upper radiator grilles first and foremost. Other stylistic details are left in the background, with those grilles taking the spotlight. We don’t mean to be nitpicking here, but does the silver-painted plastic and boxing mouthpiece-inspired design float your boat? We have mixed feeling on this...Nevertheless, we look forward to January 12th, when the 2015 Detroit Auto Show will open its doors to the press.
