2016 Chevrolet Volt Color Palette Comprises of Seven Finishes

Underpinned by the D2XX/D2UX platform and better in every way than is forerunner, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is a hot asset in General Motors’ venture into the eco-friendly automotive ecosystem. But buying an efficient plug-in hybrid doesn’t necessarily mean the buyer is deprived from many customization choices.

A case in point in this regard is the Volt’s exterior color palette. At launch, the 2016 model year of the PHEV will be offered in no less than seven exterior finishes: Kinetic Blue Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat, Mosaic Black Metallic, Summit White, Heather Grey Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat. The Iridescent Pearl Tricoat and Summit White hues are carried over from the 2015 model year Chevrolet Volt.

On the inside, the golden bowtie offers two cloth (Dark Ash, Jet Black) and three leather (Dark Ash, Jet Black, and Jet Black & Brandy) choices. The Jet Black & Brandy leather option is exclusive to the range-topping LTZ trim level. For the entry-level model, the price is $33,995 including the $825 destination fee. Vector in the federal tax credit ($7,500) and the price drops to $26,495. In California, the state incentives further drop the 2016 Chevrolet Volt’s sticker as low as $24,995.

Compared to the first-generation Volt, the 2016 model year arrives in the second half of the current year with powertrain upgrades that push the all-electric range to 50 miles (80 klicks) while the gas-only fuel economy is rated by the manufacturer at 41 miles per gallon (5.7 liters/100 km or 49.5 UK mpg). The 1.5-liter inline-four engine churns out 101 horsepower (75 kW) at 5,600 rpm and the two-motor Electric Drive unit is good for 149 ponies (111 kW) and 294 lb-ft (398 Nm) of torque.

On the inside, highlights include seating for five, an 8-inch center stack touchscreen with pinch and zoom capability, 8-inch reconfigurable instrument panel, as well as OnStar 4G LTE. The last-mentioned can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven connections at a time, be it a phone, tablet, laptop or PlayStation console.
