Subcompact crossover SUVs (or CUVs for short) are hot sellers these days. Everybody wants them, be it a youngster or a senior customer, because they’re high-riding vehicles with available all-wheel drive and the right amount of practicality and fuel economy. Chevy understands these details, which is why the 2016 Chevrolet Trax got updated to keep things crisp.
Compared to the 2015 model year, the 2016 Trax isn’t the kind of update to get your pants on fire. The GM Gamma-underpinned crossover utility vehicle loses four of its available exterior colors (Victory Red, Ruby Red Metallic, Blue Topaz Metallic and the Satin Steel Metallic hue). In their place comes Crimson Metallic, Sable Metallic, Mosaic Black Metallic (only for fleets), Cyber Gray Metallic and Champagne Silver Metallic.

Only one other change enhances the outside of the 2016 Chevrolet Trax, namely the Midnight Silver 18-inch aluminum wheels. Depending on the equipment level of choice, things are a little different inside too. First and foremost, the Plus Package is now known as the Convenience Package. The factory-standard 6-month OnStar Directions and Connections trial plan now excludes Hands-Free Calling minutes.

Standard features on the 1FL Equipment Group now include front and rear carpeted floor mats while the power driver seat is an optional extra on the Trax 1FL. On the oily bits front, the 2016 Chevrolet Trax’s RPO-level MNK six-speed automatic transmission replaces the older MH8 and MHB six-speed units. Not much, but every little change counts from our point of view.

Pricing will likely mirror the 2015MY’s $20,120 starting MSRP for the front-wheel drive Trax LS and $21,620 for the all-wheel drive LS. The 1.4-liter EcoTec turbo four-banger’s specs are unchanged for the 2016 Trax, delivering 138 HP and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque.
