Following in the footsteps of FoMoCo and the 2017 Ford Super Duty, Chevy jumped on the renewal bandwagon by unveiling the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD. Engineered to be tougher, smarter, and more capable, the revised Silverado HD adds previously unavailable goodies such as digital steering assist.
Digital what now? It seems like some marketing employee over at General Motors wanted to make an optional power steering system sound more cyberpunk than a simple commodity. In a nutshell, digital steering assist is available on double and crew cab models, and it helps make hauling and trailering much easier thanks to electronic gizmos. But this is not the end of Chevrolet's little hilariousness.

"It also offers greater responsiveness and an improved steering feel," says Chevy. But are we missing something here or when did a heavy-duty full-size pickup truck need responsiveness and steering feel? Moving on to another new feature of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, customers can get a new type of trailering pack.

This consists of a spray-in bedliner, a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray for the gooseneck ball hitch (or 5th wheel), and a bed-mounted trailer harness. This option will feature a 2-5 / 16-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs. Aligned with the SAE J2807 trailering standards, maximum capacity for the 2016 Silverado 2500HD is 18,000 lbs (6,804 kg) while the 3500HD dually boats with 23,200 lbs (10,523 kg). These maximum capacities apply to a 5th wheel/gooseneck setup and a tried & proven Duramax 6.6L turbo diesel.

For the 2016 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickup also gains better connectivity. An HD radio with a 7-inch touchscreen will prove popular among customers, coming with a faster processor, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. There's an 8-inch system available as well. Mind you, Android Auto is slated to arrive later in the model year for the 2016 Silverado HD's 8-inch infotainment system.
