2016 Chevrolet "Next Spark" Debuts in Korea with Improved Safety

GM is apparently getting its money's worth from buying up the old Korean automaker Daewoo. Not only does it have a place to build some Opels, but also many of its smaller vehicles are developed there. Today, we're focusing on the domestic (as in Korean) market 2016 Spark, marketed as the "Next Spark".

We've seen this sort of gimmick with the Volkswagen "New Beetle" and other cars, but there's no question that the A-segment Chevrolet is revolutionary.

Even though it's about the size of Fiat 500, the Next Spark comes with features like FCA (Forward Collision Alert), LDWS(Lane Departure Warning), SBSA( Side Blind Spot Alert) and a stop-start system. On the comfort side, the car can be ordered with a heated steering wheel, cruise control and the Corsa's City-mode Steering system that makes parking much easier

The engine is the same 1-liter 3-cylinder with 75 as used by the Opel Karl and Vauxhall Viva. That's because all three are assembled at the same factory. One significant difference is that the Spark's automatic is a CVT. US-spec models will get a bigger 1.4L Ecotec four-cylinder with about 100 horsepower.

In these following videos, you can check out the fact that there are ten different exterior colors available for the car or the different interior trim choices. Thanks to a MyLink infotainment system, Android or Apple phones can be paired.

Want more customization? Chevrolet Korea will gladly give you red and black wheels, different trim for the front wheels, aluminum pedals, a colored dash and much more.

We'll end with a bit of automotive trivia. The new Spark is underpinned by an updated version of the older model's platform. It's slightly longer between the axles while 1.6-in (40 mm) lower overall height should make it balanced. The styling looks a little weird right now, but it will all make sense after the new Cruze sedan is launched.
