Curiously enough, the golden bowtie decided to make the eigth-gen and all-new ninth-gen Chevrolet Malibu side by side. In the red corner we have the soon-to-go-on-sale 2016 Malibu that utilizes the E2XX platform. In the blue corner lies the Epsilon II-underpinned eigth-gen Chevrolet Malibu repackaged for fleets.
The 2016 model year applied to both variations might confuse some people, but the golden bowtie is going to market the old-timer as the Malibu Limited to avoid confusion.
Priced from $22,465, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited deletes previous optional extras such as the 2-liter turbocharged LTG four-cylinder engine, 60AH and 95AH batteries, 18 to 19-inch aluminum wheels, LTZ Premium Package, and Leather Package.
As standard, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited mid-size sedan comes with a 2.5-liter EcoTec LCV lump and an 800 CCA battery. Coupled to a six-speed auto, the four-cylinder motor churns out 196 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 191 lb-ft (259 Nm) at 4,400 rpm. The manufacturer claims that 36 mpg highway (6.5 liters per 100 km) is doable thanks to fuel-saving tech such as direct injection and Intake Valve Lift Control.
Compare to the 2015 model year, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Limited removes the OnStar delete option. As such, all fleet customers will get OnStar with a free 6-month trial of OnStar Guidance. Finally, a few exterior colors have been deleted (Autumn Bronze Metallic, Sable Metallic, Atlantis Blue Metallic and Black Granite Metallic). In their place, the 2016 model year boasts Siren Red Tintcoat, Blue Velvet Metallic, and Black.
