2016 Chevrolet Cruze Introduced at Beijing Auto Show

The much-anticipated all-new Chevy Cruze has been officially unveiled by General Motor's Chinese joint venture partner at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. Featuring a clean-sheet design and brand-new architecture, the 2016 Cruze was developed by GM's global R&D team.

Offering the first expression of Chevy's next-generation design language characterized by the cheesy slogan "Design with a Heartbeat", the C-Segment sedan's aesthetics draw inspiration from the Tru 140S Concept in terms of styling.

A dual-mesh radiator grille dominates the front fascia design along with the sleek headlights. Featuring coupe-like flowing lines that support enhanced aerodynamics, as well as shorter rear and front overhangs, the all-new Cruze is much more handsome than the recently introduced US-spec facelift of the sedan.

Chrome-plated trim stretches from the outside rearview mirrors to the rear side windows, conveying a great looking profile perspective. Featuring the latest Ecotec small-displacement engines co-developed by GM and SAIC, customers can choose between a 1.4-liter turbocharged mill or a 1.5-liter direct injection naturally aspirated unit.

There's a choice of not two, but three transmission options: a third-gen S6 six-speed automated manual, an all-new six-speed stick shift and the brand spanking new DCG seven-speed dual-cluth gearbox co-developed by GM and SAIC. General Motors says that the 2016 Cruze is expected to deliver a fuel economy improvement of 14 to 21 percent compared to its predecessor.

Shanghai GM introduced the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze at the Beijing Motor Show because C-Segment compact cars account for the most popular vehicle type sold in China, with almost 50 percent marketshare. Expect the all-new Chevy Cruze to land Stateside early next year, most probably at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
