Watch the video below then take a look at that adjacent release full of emojis. Gibberish, isn’t it? Not quite. Ideograms and the typical smiley face are enough for us to learn more about the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze in the golden bowtie’s latest teaser. The headline detail is more than 35 mpg (6.7 l/100 km).
That figure is a bit on the mind-boggling side of things. Without taking the 2.0L turbo diesel engine into consideration, the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze makes do with a 1.8L N/A and a 1.4L force-fed motor. According to Chevy, the base fuel economy is 36 mpg (6.5 l/100 km) and 38 mpg (6.1 l/100 km) highway, respectively.

With city mpg for the current model in the mid-20s, what is Chevrolet trying to prove with the “more than 35 mpg” of the all-new-for-2016 Cruze?

I’m a millennial, and all this gibberish isn’t far from being hip in my book. But you know what? I know what Chevrolet is trying to tell us - the 2016 Malibu’s 1.5-liter ECOTEC turbo four-banger with 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) is the engine that will grant the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze with over 35 mpg.

Take into consideration that the larger and heavier Chevrolet Malibu is said to return 37 mpg (6.3 l/100 km) highway when the 1.5-liter is mated to a 6-speed automatic. On the soon to debut Cruze, expect way more than that. In addition to this mystery, the #ChevyGoesEmoji release in the adjacent photo tells us a number of things. Without further beating around the bush, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact car promises to be:

- more athletic, lighter, and attractive;
- equipped with OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 7 devices;
- compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto;
- sufficiently spacious for five people;
- the segment leader in terms of cargo space;
- sold all over the world.

On an ending note, the emoji-laden release features an arrow with “soon” written under it and a flower next to it. Is that the gibberish way of saying “a Chevrolet Cruze Hybrid will follow soon after the 1.5L debuts?”
